Progenitor is a tool designed to help you form new ideas about your concepts so that you might innovate and create. Progenitor's reason for existence is to point you toward new potential sources of inspiration about your concepts. They are sometimes good at pointing you to specific information on subjects when you already know what you are looking for and others have found that information already. However, innovation implies creativity or coming to know somehow what is not already known. Search engines can help some in this respect and often do by automatically expanding the search criteria you specify using synonyms etc, but they usually offer you very little or no control over how such expansion is accomplished. Progenitor is a tool that helps you spawn new ideas related to target concepts that you define.You communicate target concepts to Progenitor by specifying a subject and an activity.You control the depth and direction that Progenitor takes as it attempts to semantically project from your target concept to form a set of related subject-activity pairs or potentials. Progenitor seeks potentials that would lead you to form valid analogous connections to your target concept. It is hoped that these connections would cause a critical mass to occur in terms of your thinking concerning your target concept such that you can readily interpolate or extrapolate new ideas about your target concept. Once Progenitor has determined a set of potentials or starting points for analysis and synthesis, you are given an opportunity to further steer the process by trimming that set.
After you have settled on a set of potentials, Progenitor uses a database comprised of a large snapshot of current on line encyclopedia data that has been indexed for high speed access to determine if each element in your set of potentials, expressed as a search term, is valid based on usage of each within the database.Finally, Progenitor creates a running display of validation test findings as data is being searched. Result sets include a ranking of potentials based on number of matches found for that term as well as a ranking of file or web references where highest number of matches were found. Results can also be stored to your local file system. Progenitor also includes a semantic visualization tool that allows you to explore the semantic trees of over 150,000 terms.
